Summer’s coming and it’s time to get in shape, drop those unwanted kilos, gain muscle, get fit and feel the best you ever have. I really mean it. In previous years you may have said the same thing and nothing resulted from it, but this year is the time to change it and achieve those results you’re after. Yes you will have to work hard and make sacrifices but nothing worth having comes easy.
START RIGHT NOW. Today is the day to start. Don’t wait for next week, you can make small changes in your lifestyle from today. During winter it’s easy to eat too much warm comfort food and cover ourselves up, we begin to feel a bit fluffy and slower. This doesn’t happen over night and neither will achieving the body of your dreams. Identify what you want to achieve and write down some goals and use this to motivate you in your training everyday.
Here are some tips to get fit and look great for summer.
-Watch what you eat & drink.
The summer months are notorious for heading out with mates and enjoying social occasions while consuming ample food and drink on regular occasions. This is what life is about, enjoying the social times, but don’t let unhealthy food and too much booze ruin all your hard work in the gym. What tends to happen after a few too many drinks is you end up justifying picking up some greasy food on the way home and then there’s definitely no way you’re getting up early to train the following day.
So the plan is to manage these occasions. Yes go out and have a good time but don’t let it turn into multiple nights of bad food and drink per week. Play it smart and stick to soda water with lemon and eat the carrot & celery sticks. Trust me, you’ll feel a lot better for it and your training will also benefit.
– Make it a priority to train.
With the sunshine hours increasing weekly and the Christmas functions starting to roll around, getting into the gym after work can be difficult. A great way to get around this is training in the morning. It’s a lot warmer now and easier to drag yourself out of bed for an early start to get the business done. Block training out in your calendar if you must.
When you come in and train, come in focussed to train hard and get the most out of the session. If you’re early, do some mobility, jump on a rower or head for a small jog to loosen and warm up. Don’t be fooled into thinking long slow cardio will do the trick. The high intensity workouts will give you the most bang for your buck and increase your metabolism which will burn that fat away. When it comes time for the met-con (short high intensity workout) this is where a lot of the results are achieved. Train like you want your goals!
– Take part in a challenge.
Entering a nutrition challenge in a team or individually is a great way to be motivated, give you the info you need to succeed, hold you accountable and sling shot your way to achieving your goals faster. You will turn up to the box with a goal in mind and teammates cheering you on and your training will go to the next level. When you’re not at the gym or make excuses for training, they will let you know and you’ll be back in no time and won’t fall off the wagon. You’ll get to the summer holidays and be proud of your progress and enjoy your success.
CrossFit North Harbour’s Spring Challenge is starting up October 27th and everyone is encouraged to get involved.
