Want to be the best version of yourself? Simple, follow these three words: Technique, Consistency, and Intensity. One of the first articles I read when I began my CrossFit journey, was based on this simple principle and it has stuck with me since that day.
Technique or mechanics refers to a person’s ability to move properly through the core CrossFit movements. This is in a manner that is efficient and therefore, safe for us to do so. With correct technique, we can tranCrossFit North Harbour our human potential energy (Whatever you have in the tank) in the most efficient way, into getting work done (bigger lifts, better WOD times).
Consistency is described as performing the mechanics of the specific movement on a constant or unchanging basis. This counts for when you walk into the box fresh for a lifting session or if you’re halfway through ‘Murph’ and starting to fatigue; always give it your all to produce consistent movement patterns. It also applies to being consistent in your application, whilst at the box and consistently attending training.
Intensity, as Coach Greg Glassman, founder of CrossFit has stated “…is the independent variable most commonly associated with the rate of return on favourable adaptation.” Simply put, high intensity brings results.
Now that we know the three definitions, how does it all work together? Well, I mentioned above that with correct technique we can get more work done, whether that is to lift more weight or perform more reps in a quicker time. More work done in less time = a higher average power output, this is equal to a higher intensity which in turn brings better Results.
So moral of the story:
First, nail your technique. Make the most of the awesome coaches around you and really work to understand and hit the mechanics of each movement.
Second, turn up to training and work hard (with good technique) when you’re there.
Last but not least, with the first two sorted, bring on the intensity and the results will follow.
See you in the Box,
Coach Nick.
